ATHENS AREA HUMANE SOCIETY HOSTS 9TH ANNUAL CHARITY CHILI COOK-OFF AT THE SOUTHERN BREWING CO. ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5TH

FEATURING LIVE MUSIC BY PYLON REENACTMENT SOCIETY

ATHENS, GA-Athens Area Humane Society will host their 9th Annual Charity Chili Cook-Off at The Southern Brewing Company, 231 Collins Industrial Blvd, Athen, on Friday, October 5th from 5:00-8:00 p.m.  In addition to the chili cook off, there will be live music from Pylon Reenactment Society and a selection of adoptable puppies

This annual event is a competition for local non-profit organizations to compete for a grand prize of $300.00 based on votes from patrons.  As of press time, there are still competition slots open for an entry fee of $25.00.

Pylon Reenactment Society is fronted by former Pylon front woman Vanessa Briscoe Hay, whose inimitable vocal textures and phrasing defined the band’s sound for most listeners.Pylon is considered to be one of the most influential bands at the beginnings of what would become known as the “Athens, GA music scene.” 30 years ago, Pylon, along with The B-52’s and R.E.M., were heavily featured in the original feature documentary, "Athens, GA: Inside/Out.”   Formed in 2014, PRS formed is rounded out by Jason NeSmith (Casper & The Cookies) on guitar, Kay Stanton (Casper & The Cookies) on bass guitar and backing vocals, Damon Denton (Big Atomic) on keyboards, and Joe Rowe (The Glands) on drums.  In fall of 2017, PRS released a 6-song EP, "Part Time Punks Session" on Chunklet Industries to rave reviews! The band is currently putting the finishing touches on a new vinyl single and accompanying video that will be released in early November of 2018. 

Admission to the event is free. A $10.00 donation to AAHS grants the patron unlimited samples of chili and includes a vote for the best one Tickets can be purchased in advance via Event Brite or day of event at Southern Brewing Company. This event is open to all ages. However, patrons must be 21 to purchase alcohol.  Applicable tasting fees apply. A percentage from every tour sold will be donated to AAHS. This event will take place rain or shine.

Athens Area Humane Society is a donor supported no-kill, non-profit organization dedicated to lowering area euthanasia rates through adoption, spay/neuter, and pet retention programs.  AAHS operates a low cost spay/neuter facility that is open to the public Monday through Thursday.  The adoption center is open seven days a week.  AAHS is located at 1781 Mars Hill Road, Watkinsville, Georgia  30677.
